Wayfarer Yarn is our collection of fingering weight wool. The yarn is twisted and dyed at our mill here in Philadelphia, PA our wool is sourced domestically. The colors of this line were inspired by colors found in nature across the United States of America. Coral Reef, one of our popular colors, was inspired by the marvelous purples found in the coral reefs of Florida. Another one of our popular colors is Pine Forest this color was inspired by the majestic pine forests of Washington. Wayfarer is a lovely yarn for sock knitting because it is so soft and buttery to the touch. It is a perfect yarn for a light weight shrug, scarf, or cape. It is also ideal for color-work such as Fair Isle, cabling, and lace work as well. Wayfarer yarn has a soft and bouncy hand it is truly a pleasure to work with.
Why is our Wayfarer Yarn not a Superwashed wool?
We felt strongly about preserving the natural characteristics of the wool fiber. We decided to offer this yarn in a non superwash, but still captured the qualities of superwash. Our Wayfarer yarn achieves this without loosing the unique characteristics that natural wool has. We designed a special multi-twist for this merino yarn, which gives it a buttery soft and bouncy hand. Although we understand many in the Knitting, Crocheting, and Weaving communities enjoy the ease of superwashed wool we felt that there was shortage of fingering weight wool with natural wool attributes. This unique yarn can be used in place of any fingering weight superwash yarn. We believe the alluring feel of natural wool was too good to superwash away!
